He is MORE than Enough!

Is Christ enough for you? When you look at your life, is it evident that you rely completely on the Lord to be enough? I can tell you with sincerity, my life does not always look like this. After a while, I begin to rely on myself rather than Christ. I look at things going on in my life and try to handle them on my own. The thing that Jesus has really been laying on my heart the last couple weeks is that He is enough. Not just enough, but He is more than enough!

My youngest sister just got a couple Newsboys CD’s and while I was listening to the CD with her, a song came on that I highly suggest listening to. It is called “More than enough” and I wanted to share the lyrics with you before I get into this blog in depth. Hope you enjoy!

Child of promise sent from heaven
Light from light shine down to us
Oh to fill a hungry people
Child of promise, child of GodYou are faithful, You are savior
You are more than enough
You are healer, You are holy
You are more than enough

Man of sorrows, heart of mercy
Love raised high upon a cross
Dead to lead us to redemption
Man of sorrows, Son of God

Lord of life in glory risen
Love has conquered both sin and grave
Heaven’s gates are truly open
Lord of life, King of Kings

I’m alive in the arms of love
I lift my hands to the God above

For the past week, Jesus has been continuing to remind me of this beautiful truth and He keeps pointing me back to Him; focusing my eyes and my heart on the fact that He is sufficient. He is enough! That’s all there is to it. Nothing else in all of creation will ever be able to sustain me or love me the Christ does. And though it is hard to really live out this truth, it is vital to our faith.

When we do things on our own, whether we intend to or not, we are showing that we don’t trust God enough to handle it, so we try to rely on our own strength to accomplish things. But let me tell you something that was an eye-opener for me; apart from Christ, we don’t have any strength to accomplish or fix anything. As followers of Jesus, we are called to live in obedience and to give God glory in all that we do! Philippians 4:13 & 19 says “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength… And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” We will never be able to further the kingdom of the Lord if we are doing it on our own. It is through Christ alone that we are enabled. Only He can provide the things we need, even when we don’t recognize we need them.

That doesn’t mean that we cannot find strength or love or acceptance in things around us, but the truest form of these things can only be found in Christ. This world is temporary, this life is temporary, therefore the things that this world has to offer is temporary. Christ is eternal and the things which come from Him will be everlasting. No matter my job position or how exhausted I am, or how busy my family is; no matter where I live or how many friends I do or do not have; whether I am healthy or not, no matter how much money I have in the bank or which plans and dreams I have for my life come true… He is enough!  He is sufficient to meet every need in my life and in my heart. He will sustain and satisfy me no matter where i am in my life, and that is something this world simply cannot give us.

Believe me, I know that when we feel weakened by the insults of those around us, by persecution, by rejection, by the trials and by the struggles we go through, one of the last things we do is delight in our struggle and focus on Christ being our source of strength. We want to fix things ourselves rather than trusting that God is in control and can indeed help us through it. It does not come naturally to us to trust God, but it needs to be a choice. A conscious decision to lean on the Lord rather than yourself.

A lot of times we turn to things when we are struggling for comfort, for security, for acceptance… But something that is very important to remember is that no matter what we put our trust in, nothing will sustain us or fulfill what our hearts need like Christ! He alone can satisfy! These trials and struggles, they are there to grow us, to refine us, to mold us into the men and women God is making us to be. He is in control and He is more than enough!

  • Jeremiah 29:11 ~ “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart’.”
  • 2 Corinthians 12:8-10 ~ “Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
  • Mark 11:24 ~ “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
  • John 6:35 ~ “Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’

I pray that the Lord uses this to remind you that even when it things get to be so difficult and unbearable, we can lean on Him because He is more than enough for us. I pray that this also reminds you of the sufficiency of Christ alone; brothers and sisters, He is more than enough for you! Lean on Him and He promises to sustain us and fulfill the needs in our lives. God bless!
